// 01 - WHAT I COLLECT
What I collect
The only place on this site where you can send me information is the form on the Party Chat page. I am William (Spimy), based in Mauritius, and I am the person responsible for what you send there.
- Your name, email address and message. You type these in yourself, and the form needs all three. You do not have to use the form: the other links on the contact page work too.
- Your IP address. The site uses it to limit how many messages one person can send in an hour, and passes it to hCaptcha to check that you are not a bot. It is kept in the server's memory only, not in a database.
- hCaptcha. With JavaScript on, the form uses hCaptcha, a security service from Intuition Machines, Inc. (a US company), to check that you are a person and not a bot. It is loaded when you open the contact page, and shows you a short challenge when you send a message. It looks at information such as your IP address, how long you have been on the page and your mouse movements, and sends it to Intuition Machines. This may start before the challenge appears. I use it only to protect the form from spam and abuse. hCaptcha acts on my behalf as a data processor, and its Privacy Policy and Terms of Service apply. Without JavaScript, the form uses a hidden check instead, which sends nothing to hCaptcha.
- Anonymous visit statistics. The site uses Vercel Web Analytics to count visits. Per Vercel's Privacy Policy, it uses no cookies and does not store your IP address. Each page view records only things like the page, where you came from, your rough location, and your browser and device type. It is only used for totals, not to identify you.
- Hosting logs. The site is hosted on Vercel, which may log basic details of each visit, such as the IP address, as part of running the site.
I use your name, email and message only to read your message and, if I reply, to write back to you.
// 02 - WHERE IT GOES
Where it goes
- It becomes an email. Your message is sent through Microsoft's email service (Office 365) to my inbox. It is not saved in any database on this site, so the only copy is the one in my inbox.
- One short exception. If you send a message without JavaScript, the site keeps your name and message in the server's memory for up to 5 minutes so it can show them back to you after the page reloads. They are forgotten as soon as they are shown, or when the time runs out.
- How long I keep it. If we end up in a real conversation, such as with a recruiter or a freelance client, I keep it and archive it as a record. Anything else, like spam or a casual hello, I almost always delete as soon as I have replied, if I reply at all.
- Outside Mauritius. Microsoft, hCaptcha and Vercel are international services, so some of your data may be processed outside Mauritius.
// 03 - YOUR CHOICES
Your choices
- You can ask what I hold about you, ask me to correct it, or ask me to delete it.
- You can take back your consent at any time by asking me to delete your message.
- To do any of this, write to me using the Show email button on the contact page.
- If you are not happy with how I handled your data, you can complain to the Data Protection Commissioner in Mauritius, through the Data Protection Office.
If this changes, I will update this page and the date below.
